How Petrolatum Gauze Works
The petrolatum coating saturates the gauze fibers, creating a soft, non-adherent barrier between the wound and outside dressing layers. This helps maintain a moist wound environment for low-exudate wounds, which supports the body’s natural healing process while preventing the gauze from drying out and sticking to the wound bed. The result is a gentler dressing change with less disruption to healing tissue.
Where to Use Petrolatum Gauze
This dressing is suited for a broad range of wound types, including skin grafts and donor sites, surgical incisions, minor burns, abrasions, lacerations, skin tears, tunneling wounds, tube sites, and circumcisions. Its non-adherent, protective qualities make it especially useful for wounds where minimizing trauma during dressing changes is a priority.
Directions for Use
To apply, clean the wound according to your healthcare provider’s instructions and gently pat the surrounding skin dry. Select the appropriate pad size for the wound, then remove the dressing from its sterile packaging and place it directly over the wound bed, smoothing it into place. For tunneling wounds, the gauze can be gently packed into the wound space as directed. Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing to absorb any drainage and protect the area, securing it as needed.
