What It Is
Simpurity Composite Island Dressing is a sterile, all-in-one wound dressing that combines a soft, non-adherent absorbent pad with a waterproof adhesive film border. Designed as a single-step solution, it eliminates the need for separate primary and secondary dressings, simplifying wound care routines for patients and caregivers alike. It’s available in multiple sizes — 4″ x 4″, 4″ x 6″, 4″ x 10″, 4″ x 14″, and 6″ x 7.5″ — to accommodate a range of wound dimensions.
How Island Dressing Works
The dressing’s central pad sits directly over the wound, absorbing light to moderate exudate while remaining non-adherent to help prevent the pad from sticking to healing tissue. Surrounding the pad is a thin, waterproof film border that adheres gently to the surrounding skin, creating a secure seal against external contaminants, bacteria, and moisture while still allowing the wound to breathe. Together, these two components work as a single “island” dressing — the pad manages the wound environment, and the border keeps everything securely in place.
Where to Use Island Dressing
This dressing is well-suited for a wide range of wound types, including minor cuts, abrasions, post-surgical incisions, and other low-to-moderately exuding wounds. Its waterproof border also makes it a practical choice for wounds that may be exposed to moisture during daily activities, such as bathing, while its low-trauma design supports use on more sensitive or healing skin.
Directions for Use
To apply, clean and dry the wound and surrounding skin as directed by your healthcare provider. Choose a dressing size that allows the adhesive border to extend at least 1–1.5 inches beyond the wound edges, then remove the dressing from its packaging and peel away the protective liner without touching the pad or adhesive surface. Center the pad over the wound and press the border firmly onto the skin, smoothing outward to avoid wrinkles or air pockets. Change the dressing as directed, or sooner if it becomes saturated or loose, and remove gently by lifting one corner and peeling back slowly to minimize discomfort.
Why Choose a Composite Island Dressing
Compared to using separate gauze and tape, a composite island dressing offers a streamlined, all-in-one alternative that reduces the number of products needed for basic wound care. Its waterproof border helps protect against external contamination and moisture, while the non-adherent pad supports a more comfortable, lower-trauma dressing change — making it a practical option for everyday wound management.
