What It Is

Simpurity Silicone Foam Transfer Dressing is a sterile, multi-layer wound dressing designed for moderate to heavily exuding acute and chronic wounds. Its two-component construction — a perforated silicone contact layer and an absorbent polyurethane foam core — work together to manage wound fluid while protecting the wound bed and surrounding skin. Available in 6″ x 8″ and 8″ x 16″, each box contains 12 pads.

How the Transfer Mechanism Works

The term “transfer dressing” refers to the dressing’s primary function: rapidly moving exudate away from the wound surface and into the absorbent foam layer where it can be retained. The perforated silicone contact layer allows wound fluid to pass through freely while keeping the foam from direct contact with the wound bed. This transfer action helps prevent fluid from pooling at the wound surface, reducing the risk of maceration to the surrounding periwound skin.

Non-Adherent Silicone Contact Layer

The silicone-coated perforated film that contacts the wound is engineered not to bond to healing tissue. Unlike traditional gauze or adhesive dressings, the silicone surface releases cleanly from the wound bed during removal, minimizing pain and mechanical trauma to fragile or newly forming tissue. This makes it particularly well-suited for patients with sensitive skin, those prone to skin tears, or anyone who experiences significant discomfort during dressing changes.

Where to Use

This dressing is suitable for a range of moderate to heavily exuding wound types, including pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, surgical wounds, skin tears, abrasions, and donor sites. Its larger size options — particularly the 8″ x 16″ pad — make it a practical choice for wounds covering broader surface areas, such as sacral pressure injuries or post-surgical sites on the trunk or limbs.
