What It Is
Simpurity Silicone Wound Contact Layer is a thin, non-adherent dressing made from a soft, perforated silicone mesh. It’s designed to be placed directly on the wound bed as the first layer of a wound care routine, with a secondary absorbent dressing applied on top to manage drainage. Each box contains four 4″ x 4″ pads.
How Contact Layer Works
The dressing’s silicone-coated surface is engineered not to stick to the wound itself, allowing it to sit gently against the wound bed without bonding to healing tissue. Its perforated structure lets wound exudate pass through into a secondary dressing placed on top, while the silicone layer remains in contact with the wound and can typically stay in place across several dressing changes. This combination helps maintain a moist wound environment, supports the body’s natural healing process, and reduces the disturbance to the wound each time the outer dressing is changed.
Where to Use Contact Layer
The Wound Contact Layer is suitable for a variety of wound types where a gentle, non-adherent primary layer is needed, including surgical wounds, abrasions, lacerations, donor sites, graft sites, and other exuding wounds. It’s intended to be used as the first layer beneath a secondary absorbent dressing such as gauze or foam, rather than as a standalone covering.
Directions for Use
To apply, clean and dry the wound according to your healthcare provider’s instructions, then remove the dressing from its sterile packaging without touching the side that will contact the wound. Place the silicone-coated side directly onto the wound bed, smoothing it into place without folding or wrinkling, and trim to size if needed. Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing to absorb exudate, securing it with tape or a bandage as directed. The secondary dressing can be changed as needed while leaving the Wound Contact Layer in place, if appropriate for the wound type and stage of healing; the contact layer itself should be replaced as instructed by your healthcare provider, removed gently by lifting one edge and peeling back slowly.
